Roaring Fork School District has three middle school of varying age which all were in need of renovations. The district saw a need to plan for renovations of each school which reflected the 21st Century and ideas of the District. The first step was to create a document with HL that set a program of ideas for all the middles schools as a whole. This programming set up a need for a “heart” and similar mission statements as a guide for design.

TAB Associates, Inc. was the Architect of record for the Basalt Middle school project. The first four images are of the Basalt Middle School’s existing original conditions. The following images are after design and construction completion. This project was a renovation of the entire school to incorporate fire suppression, finishes and some mechanical upgrades. The “heart” was addressed at the main entry commons with an open connection to the media center. Major renovations to the media center were part of the renovations. A new makerspace, various administration renovations occurred. In addition, a major renovation of the existing auditorium was part of the scope. The auditorium received a stage expansion, new seating, new acoustical treatments, sound and equipment. Two additions housing new classrooms and a movement space also occurred.

At Carbondale and Glenwood Middle Schools the interior renovations designed by HL with Peer review and Construction Administration performed by TAB Associates, Inc.
